Mental Health in a Pandemic

Agency: Soulcraft Allstars

Client: Overlake Hospital

Date: 2020 March-April

Brief:

Overlake wanted to spread awareness about mental health services that they had available. More people than ever were experiencing challenges with mental health during lockdowns. While originally planned as a live action shoot with motion graphic support, with March’s shutdown, it became a fully animated piece. All the audio was recorded via zoom. I helped assemble the script and created storyboards. I then modeled the 3d assets I needed in Cinema 4d, and pushed those into AfterEffects through Stardust. I illustrated all but the two main talking heads. Another illustrator created the two main puppets and mouth shape illustrations, which I then used in character animator to create lip syncing in a time effective way. I broke the story into a few different parts. I wanted to explore their external stimuli, internal changes, and social interactions separately to make the overall messaging more digestible. This broke down into the stories of the soccer player, the heart, and the dot respectively. It launched as part of a larger campaign to spread awareness for these services and facilitate fundraising.
